SUCCESS WITH INVISIBLE DISABILITY
With 36 million women disabled in America, I want to share how I went from a corporate athletic wear designer to creating a meaningful life after becoming disabled at 30 years old.
What do you do if your
vitality and health are pulled out from under you after you land your dream career? I’m not sure anyone can prepare you for what happens after a disease that changes the way you function in the world. With residual nerve damage and permanent disabilities, my lens on life was forever affected. I rescued my fashion design career by creating my own yoga apparel line.Yoga was barely emerging in the Western World, so this idea was novel. My invisible disability is still active in my life as I continue to run a thriving business for 30 years plus. I conquer fears and manage symptoms not seen by the common eye. It takes creativity and self acceptance and asking for help and family to step in and assist at times.. Learning how to navigate your inner dialogue as well as your outer presence in the world to find peace is vital.
I'VE BEEN A BUYER
I have been my customer. I have travelled to yoga retreats, done deep diving at retreats and attended a lot of Yoga Journal conferences studying with the top yoga teachers in the world. I have been a vendor with Yoga Journal and The Yoga Show to have direct experience with my ideal customer and talk to them about my product offering and what they want. I know the comfort and fit that I want when I am practicing yoga. I need clothing that needs no adjusting, that fits great so I can focus on my breathe and alignment. I watch what people are wearing and see them more graceful with how I would dress them. I see them younger than they see themselves. There is no reason for frumpy and dowdy. You can be hip and comfy at any age.
